From sensitive lyrical passages to hard driving bop punctuated with creative improvisations. <strong>The Manhattan Saxophone Ensemble<\/strong> offers audiences an exciting musical experience that is creative and enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gunnar Mossblad<\/strong>, is active as a composer and performer in both the classical and jazz idioms. He earned a B.M. in Jazz Studies and an M.M. in Saxophone Performance from The University of North Texas, and taught at James Madison University from 1982-1999. He recently joined the acclaimed School of Music at West Chester University. He has performed and\/or recorded with numerous renowned jazz artists including David Liebman, Marvin Stamm, John Coates Jr., John D\u2019earth, Royce Campbell,\u00a0 Mel Torme, Doc Severinson, Tommy Newsom, Phil Mattson, Lou Fischer, and most recently with the Woody Herman Herd. Gunnar is a Selmer clinician and can be heard on the <em>Four Leaf Clover, Owl,\u00a0 <\/em>and<em> Candid <\/em>Record labels<em>. <\/em>His releases as a leader\u00a0 <strong><em>Convergence<\/em><\/strong> (mm-2002) and <strong><em>Visions<\/em><\/strong> (FLC-4098) have received critical acclaim.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Wilson,<\/strong> is a veteran of the New York jazz scene and probably best known for his work with <strong><em>Out of The Blue, <\/em><\/strong>and most recently with <strong><em>Chick Corea<\/em><\/strong>. Steve studied woodwinds at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he remained active as a teacher and performer until moving to New York. During his college years he toured and recorded with singer Stephanie Mills. In 1986, he joined <strong><em>OTB<\/em><\/strong>, and has since worked with a host of the greats of jazz: Billy Drummond, Ralph Peterson, Jr., Ellis Marsalis, Gunther Schuller, Buster Williams, and Mel Lewis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Riekenberg<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong> is sought after as a performer and clinician.\u00a0 He holds a B.M. in Theory and an M.M. in Education from the University of North Texas.\u00a0 His extensive touring experience has taken him throughout the World and has teamed him up with preeminent jazz artists like Jimmy Cobb, Mel Lewis, Larry Willis, Walter Booker, and Junior Cook.\u00a0 Dave is a member of <strong><em>Blood Sweat and Tears<\/em><\/strong> and toured with the <strong><em>Woody Herman Herd<\/em><\/strong> for three and one half years.\u00a0 He can be heard on Bertha Hope\u2019s recent release for Steeple Chase Records entitled <em>\u201cElmo\u2019s Fire\u201d<\/em> (SCCD-31289).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tim Ries<\/strong>, a native of Detroit, is also a graduate of the University of North Texas jearning his B.M. in Jazz Studies there, and an M.M. in Saxophone Performance and Composition from the University of Michigan. He has collaborations with Maynard Ferguson, Louie Bellson, Bob Brookmeyer, Tom Harrell, Mel Torme, and David Benoit. He is a member of the BMI Composers Workshop, and has scored over 100 tunes for jazz groups from duos to big bands. His plaing and original composition \u201cFlight 108\u201d was recorded with the <strong><em>Maynard Ferguson Orchestra. <\/em><\/strong>A sought-after studio musician and winner of the 1989 Belgium Jazz Competition, Tim plays both sides of the Atlantic touring Europe frequently.
